I started Eudaemonia in order to accept contract work and to pursue my own ideas, products, and services professionally.

Completed projects include:

• Large scale generation of a reports from databases with 'on demand' selection interface
• Many UX Interfaces and Forms
• Interactive marketing materials
• 'Interactive Multimedia Kiosk' web applications for on-location event marketing and customer engagement
• Custom site designs
• Server setup, management and repair

Internally, I have developed and designed both a web/home-server data management system and a home-automation platform utilizing micro-controllers and an optional server.

August 2016 → Present

I joined the Rochester RHIO as a next step in my career path, taking on the role of sole/lead developer on an 'Operations Management Platform' web application responsible for managing a large breadth of data and processes.

• Advanced Javascript programming utilizing Ember MVC framework
• Large scale application development and construction of many underlying systems and processes within the application
• UI / UX design of application flow and layout including dozens of individual interfaces
• Iteraction with SQL and creation of numerous stored procedures ranging from simple to highly complex

I accepted this job contractually in order to experience direct employment in a corporate environment as opposed to solely doing freelance work. I enjoyed working as a member of the web team in addition to completing solo projects. I returned to freelance work as I felt my skills and career were not being adequately advanced in the direction I desired.

• Utilized CMS and Regular Expressions to make sitewide changes
• Designed user-facing pages, forms and emails for high value clients
• Met novel design challenges while adhering to company branding and procedures
• Worked as a member of a team to coordinate efforts and maintain revision history, resources and code

June 2012 → September 2012

After my M.A. degree I was awarded an internship at a NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) Research Center to work with a 360° six projector stereoscopic virtual reality room used for mine safety and rescue training simulations and research.

The internship gave me the freedom to select my own projects and work with a number of staff.

• Redesigned the VR room control scheme and built an effective one-handed control device using a smooth tracking air-mouse fitted with a working Xbox 360 controller joystick
• Created less intrusive reticules for targeting inside the simulator application to increase immersion
• Worked on tracking solutions inside the simulator which had not yet been implemented
• Interfaced sensors into an Android application using a micro-controller for a separate project to monitor mine worker positions and gas concentrations

I worked concurrently for two college departments: the 'Institute for Global Engagement' and 'Research and Individualized Student Experiences'

• Built both department websites and created content
• Created brochures, marketing materials and official certificates
• Conducted a statistical review of student involvement in research across a five year period
• Created a wiki-style website to facilitate faculty collaboration and knowledge-sharing about experiences abroad

Research Assistant

I worked for the Psychology department in the 'Learning and Emotion Lab'

• Programmed the 'Java Affect Map' research tool for measuring participants affect and activation
• Presented Java Affect Map at SUNY Oswego Quest (research presentations week) and made the program available for student research
• Analyzed chair pressure-sensor data using Data Mining techniques to recognize posture positions
• Received a Summer Scholars stipend and presented Java Affect Map at Summer Scholars conference

September 2010 → May 2012

I chose the Human Computer Interaction Program in order to migrate into the Computer Science and Technology field while still retaining value from my education and interest in psychology. I enjoyed the program and subject matter which has a strong focus on design, usablity, user testing, programming, technical knowledge, project manangement, and writing and communicating ideas.

I completed many projects in two years of the program. A few examples that stand out are

• An experiment I conducted ultimately titled "A Virtual Perspective : Measuring Engagement and Perspective in Virtual Art Galleries" which gained publication in 2015
• An experiment I designed and conducted to measure the effectiveness of the CBT (computer-based training) materials used to teach mine safety and navigation at the NIOSH center I would internship at.
• A data-visualization I constructed to explain the convoluted and extensive lore behind the Elder Scrolls videogame series

In addition to the course work, I also served as a Graduate Assistant in two departments and as a Research Assistant.

September 2004 → May 2009

I majored in Psychology with a minor in Cognitive Science as I quickly became more interested in the hard-science of psychology which included subjects such as neural networks and neurology.

I earned the distinction of Magna Cum Laude and maintained a scholarship and high GPA throughout. I graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and minor in Cognitive Science.

During my Sophomore year I served as a research assistant managing participants and collecting data for a linguistics study to catalog regional dialects. In my Junior year I served as a Teaching Assistant for the core psychology research methods course.

2016

Audubon Display (Staging)

This is a touchscreen kiosk built for the Audubon Society to enable them to display articles, images, videos, maps and external websites all within a cleanly branded touchscreen housed within a museum-style static display board. It is built to enable simple updating of content and page hierarchy without requiring technical knowledge. It was installed in May 2016 at the Audubon Society near the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge in Central New York.
The display is designed to be seen at 1920x1080 resolution although adapts to various screen sizes. It is used in conjunction with browser kiosk plugins requiring credentials to do anything other than stay on the site in fullscreen.

Web-Based Resume

This resume was designed to showcase a compact yet detailed overview of my skills and experience in an accessible format. The design, code, concept, and interactivity features are created by me using Javascript, jQuery, HTML5 and CSS3 animations.

2013, 2014 & 2015

This is my ambitious personal/company project. The concept is to provide a single mechanism to file and organize all personal data in one place to optimize future retrieval and organization while minimizing clutter and lost data. Images, recipes, notes, resources, videos, music, events, locations of objects, etc. It is designed to be extensible by allowing users to create their own terms and data structures in a user friendly way that is inherent to functionality. It enables powerful and easy organization by utilizing set theory and neural network principles.

2013, 2014 & 2015

This project allows me to control lighting and switches via a webpage using networked micro-controllers, shift registers and relays. It is relatively easy to install and setup for the benefits it offers and is highly extensible.

Eudaemonia.net

This is a relatively simple website I designed in order to provide Eudaemonia.net a web presence and display the currently available services. It is a custom designed Wordpress theme.

May 2015

This was a Wordpress website I designed as a custom theme based on a provided image. It matches almost exactly the template and is further designed with a reactive layout for small mobile devices.

January 2015

This is a project designed to meet specific requirements in playing promotional and informational videos on a fullscreen interactive display.

The videos automatically play and loop in sequence and can be jumped between by clicking on the icon tiles. The page goes fullscreen automatically and remains in fullscreen permanently by use of the screenfull.js library and managing events that would otherwise take it out of fullscreen. The videos cannot be paused or stopped as that was part of the design requirements.

As part of the project I also remotely configured two IIS servers to serve as the mobile event kiosks.

2014 & 2015

Dev Version circa Q2 2015

I did an extensive amount of customizations and features to this site including complex shipping setup, extension management and manipulation, MVC flow, custom modules, forms, custom theme design, interactivity features, debugging, and building custom scripts to manipulate the product catalog and images. I learned Magento specifically for this project and was able to pick it up quickly and effectively.

It has since been redesigned external to the firm I was working on behalf of. The site I am responsible for is available via the link.

March - April 2014

This was a project for an employee fitness and health management company that desired multiple detailed report formats for their clients employees. I developed form controls to select the type of report to generate with a preview of its layout and contents as well as configurable details and date range. I wrote all the code used to retrieve the applicable data from the normalized database and generate the reports into a .csv download.

This is a paper written for a project course (half-thesis) in my M.A. degree that was eventually published under the title 'A Virtual Perspective: Measuring engagement and perspective in virtual art galleries'. It discusses factors relating to immersion and experience of digital art through different mediums and interaction methods and includes a research experiment I conducted using mixed trials and methods of interaction.

Affect Map Download

This is a research prompting tool I created for the Learning and Emotion Lab at SUNY Oswego. It is an automated prompting program that displays the 'Affect Map' used for self-reports of participant affect and activation. It includes additional options for the prompting interval, variations for which interface to be used, whether to play a chime and where to save the resulting .csv file.

A basic example of photo editing and graphic manipulation. I used a photo image of a Eudaemonia Brachyura moth and transformed it into a suitable logo image using paths, reflection, blur filters, freehand design, and other techniques.

Q4 2012

This is a personal project that enables quality soap to be made out of essentially any workable combination of oils. Using the constituent molecular-chain oil percentages for common oils it constructs recipes possessing soap characteristics that fall within a user-defined range.

Although only employed for personal use, it works very well and greatly simplifies creating new functional soap recipes.
